Dark matter

The mass distribution obtained from X-ray measurements can be compared to the light distribution in Es, and so one can estimate the variation of the mass-to-light ratio, $ M/L$, through the galaxy. This, together with the measurements of the orbits of stars, to be discussed next, gives us strong evidence that also Es are dark-matter dominated, at least in their outer parts.
